Fireplace Restoration Kent

Fireplace Restoration in Kent

Lime repointing, matching brick replacement and careful cleaning.
Done properly, done once.

Bring your fireplace back to life

Fireplace restoration in Kent from Prestige Brickwork: we bring tired, sooty or badly repointed fireplaces and chimney breasts back to life across Canterbury, Whitstable, Maidstone, Ashford, Sittingbourne and Folkestone. We use traditional lime mortar and carefully matched replacement bricks, so the repair looks as though it has always been there. For the stack above the roof, see our chimney repointing and rebuilds page.

Our fireplace restoration services

Lime repointing

We rake out old or crumbling pointing to 25mm using dust extraction. Then we repoint in traditional lime mortar, because it lets the brickwork breathe.

Brick replacement

We replace broken and spalled bricks with carefully sourced matching imperials or reclaimed bricks. Also, we always use whole bricks, never brick slips, so the repair blends in.

Partial and full rebuilds

When the lower section or top of a chimney breast has failed, we rebuild it in matching brick. As a result, it ties in with the original.

Correcting bad cement pointing

When thin wet cement has been smeared over old mortar, the brickwork looks misty and tired. So we take it out and redo it the right way.

Gentle brickwork cleaning

We clean soot, dust and staining from the brick faces without damaging them. That way, the colour and character come through.

Exposed chimney breasts

After stripping a chimney breast back, we restore the original brick. Then it’s ready for a log burner, stove or open fire.

How we carry out fireplace restoration

  1. First, we protect the room. The whole room is covered and floor protectors go down.
  2. Next, we rake out the old pointing with dust extraction, to a depth of 25mm.
  3. Then we vacuum the mortar beds with high powered hoovers to remove excess dust.
  4. After that, we replace damaged bricks with matching whole bricks.
  5. Once the repairs are done, we gently clean the brickwork to remove the dust sheen.
  6. Finally, we repoint in lime mortar, as it once would have been.

Why choose us for fireplace restoration

Fireplace restoration FAQs

Why use lime mortar instead of cement?

Lime is softer and more breathable than cement. It protects older bricks and lets moisture out, whereas hard cement can trap damp and cause bricks to crack or spall.

Will the work be messy?

We keep dust to a minimum. The room is covered, floor protectors go down, we use dust extraction when raking out, and the mortar beds are vacuumed before we repoint.

Can you match my existing bricks?

Yes. We source matching imperial, reclaimed or handmade bricks and always use whole bricks rather than brick slips.

Which areas do you cover?

We work across Kent, including Canterbury, Whitstable, Maidstone, Ashford, Sittingbourne, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Thanet and Folkestone.
